Formal exams can use auto-generated questions created with the Calibrae Exercise Engine. All exam users are tested on the same content, but each user has a different set of auto-generated questions, making it pointless to swap answers.

‍Good teaching activities
Online teaching activities typically come in the form of video lessons, audio narratives, PowerPoint decks, PDFs, articles, live video conference teaching and perhaps content from the web, including Youtube. Be sure to keep teaching activities short (5 to 10 mins), each one focussing on just one concept. Four 5 minute lessons are better than one 20 minute lesson. Know your audience and pitch at the right level, breaking down the complex topic into manageable steps for your learners. Use images to illustrate your narrative. Avoid narratives that simply read text from the screen.
Follow each teaching activity with an exercise through which the learner can apply the princples you have taught in order to solve problems.

- Avoid taking the learner straight from a teaching activity to a test, with no opportunity to apply, learn and practice in between.
- Avoid quizzes that have insultingly obvious answers.
- Avoid quizzes that, on an incorrect response, provide the correct answer then re-pose the same question.

Engaging learning is more about well crafted teaching and meaningful exercises, and less about glizty presentation and visual effects. Be sure to engage the learner's mind and draw them into a new realm of thinking, application and understanding!

Self-paced courses are typically online courses that a learner can begin at any time and work through at their own pace, to fit with their schedule. Self-paced courses typically do not involve an instructor to teach and guide the learner. Good self-paced courses, however, provide a mix of interesting teaching activities and learn-by-doing exercise activities that engage the learner.

Self-paced learning can be an isolated and lonely experience. The best self-paced courses foster a sense of community with built-in Q&A and chat messaging between learners and course authors.

With instructor-led courses, a live instructor typically guides a cohort of learners through a learning journey. Learners in a cohort learn together during a fixed period, starting and ending at the same time. The instructor combines teaching and discussion with workshops and exercises, assessing and nurturing learners as they go. The instructor plays a crucial role in ensuring each learner in the cohort gets maximum benefit from the course.

‍Can instructor-led sessions be delivered online?
Absolutely. Be sure to choose an online platform through which a relationship can be established between an instructor, a cohort of learners, and a course.  Instructor and learners then meet at the alloted times in their dedicated virtual meeting room, with access to all the normal conferencing tools (screen share, messaging, mute, raised hand, file sharing, etc), plus access to all of the teaching presentations, exercises and break-out rooms that will be used in the live delivery.
The instructor teaches a topic in the virtual meeting room, using screen sharing / shared slides to illustrate the principles, and facilitates discussion. Learners have on-demand access to teaching slides and resources through the platform. The instructor introduces reinforcement exercises and collaboration activities that learners work through on the platform, submitting their responses for the instructor to assess - some of which may be auto-marked. The instructor has tools to monitor the progress of the group as a whole and of each individual, and has tools to identify issues and provide one-to-one help where needed, all remotely.

Click any Create a free site button. You'll be asked to enter 3 details: your email address, the name for your chosen site (the name will form part of the initial URL for the site), and a chosen admin password. You'll also be asked if you'd like an enterprise or a school site. That done, you'll find yourself on the Admin dashboard, from where you can create courses, add users and perform all other admin tasks.

You won't be asked for any credit card details.

Yes. Initially, on site creation, you'll chose a site name that will be used in your site's default URL. E.g. Choosing OakTree as site name will result in a default https://oaktree.calibrae.com site URL. Site names and URLs can be updated later, after site creation.

The default URL can also be updated with your own domain. For example, if you own oaktree.com, you can set your Calibrae URL to use your domain name as you wish: E.g. training.oaktree.com, oaktree.com/training, or simply oaktree.com.

Calibrae doesn't charge extra for using custom domains. We don't charge extra for anything.

You do! We just host and deliver your content. You are free to remove your teaching materials at any point. Worry not - Calibrae makes no claim on your content and promises not do anything with it that we shouldn't.

Pricing is per seat. You'll decide ahead of time (and pay for) the number of seats you'd like to make available to your trainees. Whenever a trainee accesses the LMS, they occupy a seat. The seat is then reserved for that trainee for the remainder of the month and will not be available to any other user.
Each month all seat reservations are reset. All seats become available again for other trainees.

Why seats?
The notion of seats allows you to have all of your learners on the LMS system, but only pay for those who get benefit from the LMS.‍

E.g.  A training organisation trains 120 new learners during the course of each month. They need to keep progress data of all trainees, current and historic. They reserve 120 seats each month. All 120 new learners can access content for the month while they are being trained. The organisation has continuous access to all trainee data, past and present.

Paying annually for your predicted number of monthly seats gives a discounted price - 12 months for the price of 10. Seat reservations are still reset each month.

When you sell a course license, you'll share 10% of your revenue with Calibrae. That's it. No upfront costs. No recurring monthly fees. You'll share a portion of your revenue only when you sell.

You'll create course license plans for each of your courses, choosing how much to charge and for how long the learner will have access.

Absolutely.

At point of purchase, users enter the discount code for a reduced purchase price.

Calibrae uses Stripe as its payment gateway. When ready, you'll give Stripe (not Calibrae) your bank details. Then, when card payments are made for your course sales, the financial transaction is between the buyer and you, handled by Stripe. Calibrae does not process any aspect of the payment, other than to record it, and subsequently license the user.

If you are one of our Revenue Share customers, we'll charge 10% of the sale value to your next bill. If you are a subscription customer, you'll get all of the sale revenue *.
